What is parenting and child counselling?

Parenting counselling, also called parent counselling or parenting guidance, supports mothers and fathers who are worried about their child or finding their role as parents hard. Child counselling gives children and teenagers a safe, friendly space to talk about what is bothering them. Often we work with both: the child on their own, the parents together, and the whole family when that helps.

Does this sound familiar?

Every family goes through difficult phases. You do not have to wait for things to get worse.

  • Arguments with your teenager

Every conversation turns into a fight, or there is no conversation at all.

  • Studies and pressure

Exam stress, fear of failure, falling marks or losing interest.

  • Phones and screens

Too much time online, and less time with the family.

  • Parents who disagree

Different parenting styles, or grandparents with their own views.

What we work on

Every child and every family is different. These are the areas parents most often bring to us.

  • Parent–child communication

Listening, being heard, and talking without blame on either side.

  • Behaviour and anger

Tantrums, rudeness, aggression or withdrawal, and what lies behind them.

  • Confidence and self-worth

Low confidence, fear of failure and comparison with others.

  • Study and career stress

Pressure around marks, exams, streams and career choices.

  • Parenting as a team

Agreeing on rules and values, including in a joint family.

  • Co-parenting after separation

Keeping children secure when parents live apart.

Every child goes through phases. Every parent needs support sometimes.

Asking for help early makes the journey easier for everyone.

Real stories

From our case studies.

  • From arguments to understanding

Kavya, a teenager in 10th standard living abroad with her family, had stopped talking to her parents and was ready to run away. Mostly online sessions helped her parents accept that she was growing up, and helped Kavya see how much they cared. Today the family talks things through together.

  • Finding direction in 12th standard

Samarth was bright but anxious, low in confidence and unhappy with the tension at home. Sessions helped him sort out his priorities, and a session with his parents helped them support him. He went on to join a top institute and is now enjoying student life.

Common questions

Which ages do you work with?

We work with children, teenagers and young adults, and with their parents. Tell us your child’s age when we call, and we will suggest the right approach and counselor.

Can parents come without the child?

Yes. Many parents start on their own, especially when a teenager is not ready to come. Changes in how parents respond often make a big difference at home.

Will you tell us what our child shares?

Children open up more when they feel safe. At the start, your counselor will agree with you what will be shared with parents, and will always tell you if there is any concern about your child’s safety.

Do you diagnose conditions like ADHD or autism?

No. We are counselors, not doctors. If we feel your child may need a medical or specialist assessment, we will tell you and suggest where to go.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes. Sessions are available at our centre in Ahmedabad, by private video call or by phone. Many families living in other cities or abroad attend online.

Do you help with co-parenting after a separation?

Yes. We help parents agree on routines and keep children away from conflict. Read more about divorce counselling.

How much does it cost?

Counseling at Sambandhah costs ₹2,500 per hour. The length of a session is not fixed and depends on your situation. We explain everything on the call before you book.
